Stratus Joins Bike For Burns 2016

Brett Cribb and Steve Nicholas from Stratus Financial Group were among Fortnum riders from Queensland and NSW who joined forces to participate in the 2016 Bike 4 Burns Charity Bike Ride which rolled off on 9 May 2016.

The Fortnum Foundation stepped up a gear to sponsor this year’s Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Bike 4 Burns Ride for the first time, as well offering ongoing sponsorship for the NSW Fire and Rescue Service charity bike ride.

This year’s Bike 4 Burns ride is hoping to raise over $200,000 which will be used to provide support for kids suffering severe burns at both NSW Westmead Hospital Burns Unit and Queensland’s Lady Cilento Hospital.

The Fortnum Foundation contributed $10,500 to the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services as a Gold Sponsor to help support the Bike 4 Burns, and $13,000 in ongoing sponsorship to the NSW Fire and Rescue Charity Bike Ride. Donations were raised at the annual Fortnum Foundation Golf Day and 2015 Fortnum Conference.

To celebrate the 10 year milestone of the Bike 4 Burns ride, the Queensland Fire & Emergency Services invited their counterparts from NSW to join them in cycling 1,000km from Sydney to Brisbane over nine days.

Marg Miles, Co-Director Fortnum Foundation, Anna Uremovic e-Clipse Online from NSW and Queensland’s Brett Cribb and Stephen Nicholas from Stratus Financial Group and Paul Dobbrick from Dobbrick Financial Services cycled together on the last leg of the ride from Beaudesert to Brisbane. Over 80 riders were involved in this year’s ride.

Mrs Miles said she was delighted to become a Gold Sponsor for the Bike 4 Burns ride for the first time and again support the NSW Fire and Rescue service in their efforts to raise money for kids with severe burns.

“The courage required by little children suffering severe burns, who often require numerous operations and ongoing occupational therapy is unfathomable.

“It is also an honour to ride with the incredible NSW/Qld Fire and Rescue crew and see their genuine support for each other. When the going gets tough their ‘mates helping mates’ philosophy shines through as they help weaker riders to keep going,” said Mrs Miles.

The Fortnum Foundation riders also had the pleasure of riding with Nicole, the mother of Camryn who suffered severe burns during a camping trip when she was two years old, for the last leg of the ride.

Nicole’s little girl Camryn had suffered horrific burns and needed ongoing medical assistance for years for which Nicole expressed her gratitude to the hospital staff for their unwavering care for Camryn and support for her family.

Mrs Miles said “I am inspired by the families of burns victims and the fire fighters who get involved to contribute their pedal power and time each year to raise money to help children afflicted by burns. These brave men and women know all too well the devastating impacts of severe burns and are helping to make a real difference to young lives.”

The mission of The Fortnum Foundation is to raise money for children in need by fostering their wellbeing, and providing education and protection for children in Australia and overseas.
